Happy New Year!
We bring a lot of new energy to the studios at Learnlife Barcelona in 2024 and we welcome...
Christina! Our new Visual Arts Expert who will be taking us on a journey of discovery and is aiming towards a collaborative exhibition piece with learners in our upcoming event! Christina is a trans-disciplinary artist, oral performer and linguistic nomad, she often looks at the collectivity of sound, poetry and physical movement as sources of community knowledge. If you see her in the space Mon/Weds be sure to say hi.
Impact and studios
All studios will be run this cycle through impact, with the Theme: Circular Futures. This means we have the amazing opportunity to take our work outside and collaborate with local organisations that make change and through distriibuted innovation to create global action.
This menu will end with a public event called Sustain maker faire, a festival full of workshops, interactive activities and above all enthusiastic and curious people exploring solutions to be part of a circular future.
So far in studios we are exploring. . .
Cooking - Circular kitchen design solutions for the public to start using and exploring the concept of growing your own protein at home together with talkalu foods promoting the use of "ugly" produce that is always thrown to waste and Cangarus for microgreens.
Fashion - We have a collaboration with solidanca (a non-profit entity with the aim of building a more just, supportive and environmentally friendly society) and Penny a visible repair artist, our likely output at the event is a pop-up shop/ stall and a mini catwalk!
3D design - are creating prototypes to showcase how you can connect with environment problems and raise awareness through design.
Sports - we are looking at sports impact on the world and how we can use citizen science to monitor our air and health
Visual arts - are working with the idea of intimacy and space and how to form a collective space in an exhibition piece to discuss our circular futures. There is also potential either this cycle or next to explore letters by women in Wad Ras women's prison in Barcelona a project running by Christina and generate visual poetry responses.
Coding - We explore with creative coding, tools to connect and discover our carbon footprint
Music - Learners playing live at our event and figuring out the world of instrument repair with the inspiration of the amazing recycled orchestra cateura
Carpentry - We collaborate again with Moss foundations project in eSwatini, Africa through skateboard art and repair
It looks all set to be hosted at AKASHA Hub Barcelona, an amazing co-operative warehouse space. When learners are in an external space they become champions of learning, you can even see it in the way they stand! the event is open to parents and the public. More details soon.
Funds raised at the Sustain event will go to the moss foundation, a water and sanitation aid charity which turns skateboards and art into life changing water schemes in Eswatini, Africa.
Completely volunteer run, MOSS's policy is that 100% of all funds raised through exhibitions go directly to the villages' needs, so nothing is lost on management or other costs. Whether by holding art shows or building water systems, MOSS has proven successful due to its ability to empower local artists and communities in partnering to deliver our projects. Since starting in 2006, MOSS now has around thirty operating water schemes in rural eSwatini, with more installations in planning.
We are aiming to raise enough to purchase a 10,000 litre tank you can see here.
Talkual foods (link)
Talkual works with organiations and individuals to deliver fruits and vegetables that do not meet the aesthetic requirements of large stores to combat food waste
Solidanca (link)
We are upcycling donated clothes from Solidanca for our Sustain event. Solidança is a non-profit entity with the aim of building a more just, supportive and environmentally friendly society. They promote the socio-labor insertion and training actions of groups at risk of social exclusion in our environment through activities linked to comprehensive waste management and the circular economy.
